Men's spring and autumn coats are lighter than winter ones, and many are unlined, which makes them ideal for March, April, September and October. This category includes double-breasted slim-fit trench coats with a belt, classic single-breasted coats, double-breasted coats with decorative buttons, coats with an asymmetric fastening and boxy-cut coats.
A modern alternative is the minimalist mid-length coat in scuba knit – a smooth, springy knit fabric that holds its shape well.
Pair a light coat with a blazer and shirt for the office, or with chinos and a thin jumper at the weekend. When choosing your size, consider what you wear underneath and check the size chart on the product page. When the frost arrives, switch to a warmer style from winter coats.
In spring, a trench coat or a light unlined single-breasted coat in a light colour such as beige or camel works well. It goes over a shirt, a blazer or a thin jumper.
A trench coat is usually double-breasted, has a waist belt and is lighter than a winter coat. A regular transitional coat has a simpler shape and often a single-breasted fastening.
An unlined coat is lighter and more breathable, so it suits moderate temperatures in spring and autumn. On cooler days simply add a jumper underneath.
